series of progressively more complex mental health takes incoming
"im like this because of my mental illness" is a fine and good take. good place to start. accepting that your mental illnesses affect your behavior in ways you can't control is good
"im like this because of my mental illness but i still need to work against my harmful behaviors" a take that many were vocally against for a while but i think we generally all understand is necessary now yea? not really trying to argue this one i think we get it these days
"behaviors can be harmful even if they aren't hurting others" this is a general one but i think people recognize this even if they dont fully internalize it. behaviors that are fine for everyone around you can still harm you and importantly this goes beyond obvious self-harm
"sometimes behaviors which bring momentary comfort can lead to long term self harm" sounds kinda obvious on the surface but also SO much modern discourse rejects this without explicitly saying so. i stand by it still. selfcare is not always doing what makes you happy every second
"real, lasting self care requires you to learn how to recognize things that you don't want to do but Are Good For You and, sometimes, force yourself to do them, while Not forcing yourself into discomfort in ways that lead to long term distress" is a take i think is good, actually
"makki that's so wordy and full of qualifiers and ultimately a very inoffensive position" well. that's just how it is i guess
i forget why i started this thread thanks for listening
