why i think that this is just management trying to profit off of us again, just like 1D week but on a smaller scale; a thread

#INFINITYGLITCH
i’ll start off by saying that modest and syco have done an amazing job at keeping one direction relevant and keeping the band trending, even 5 years since we’ve gotten any real content which is pretty much unheard of, so we’ve essentially gained nothing and they’ve gained a lot
i think we can all agree that, besides the concept of the website (I’ll get to that later), all that we got for the 10 year anniversary was content that we’ve seen before and it was all recycled. despite this, we streamed all of the “new” content on Spotify, yt, and Apple Music.
by streaming, management was profiting off of our views and clicks and plays and whatever we did to keep up with what was happening whenever they released content we had already seen, AND we got so many hashtags trending which gave them free publicity after doing the bare minimum
by night 2/3 of 1D week we were all pretty tired and feeling quite defeated, which is when they released the schedule for “new” content and told us to watch for other things. in doing so, they managed to reboot the anniversary and get us interested again bc we wanted the mv.
the website was another ordeal. i believe that they had all of these quotes and pictures and whatever from the boys so they threw them all together, used knightlab to make a timeline of it all and called it a 10 year gift, leaving Easter eggs to keep our interest (the letter).
the letter was a MASSIVE disappointment on so many levels for the entire fandom imo but the fact that they managed to get an envelope trending without even doing anything with it is astounding to me- all they had to do was wait for us to take the bait and watch us freak out.
once 1D week was over, a lot of us were upset at the turnout of events and we felt pretty played. they emphasized that we couldn’t get “distracted” so all we did for that week was watch the one direction account and play the videos/song that we had, gaining them revenue.
the hype around one direction had died down a bit and we were finally going back to normal, so what did they do to get their band trending again? edit the infinity audio to make it look like it was glitching and get us to regain interest and stream infinity repetitively.
i genuinely think that nothing will come of this and that we aren’t going to get the infinity mv in the end, i think we were played and used by management so that they could get the most out of the one direction brand before the boys’ contracts end. tbh i don’t even think +
that there’s a full infinity mv. i think that they got some shots and then never finished filming/editing and now they’re not going to spend money on finishing the video, so they’re giving us recycled content that costs them less and using us to promote the band.
