I'm defending James a lot recently—not something I often do. But I can't stand this sloppy deliberate misreading. He didn't ask people to purchase the book: he offered to send free copies. This may seem a minor detail, but I don't trust people who deliberately lie about details. https://twitter.com/vadimnewquist/status/1289649630351892487
Disagree with people for legitimate reasons, on things they actually said. And, yes, the book is relevant. All of James' more substantial tweets & writings are about his objections to critical theory. At the heart of that is the book he wrote with Helen.
So if you are planning to debate him on this topic, to make a video about his views or to have him on your podcast, yes, of course you should read the book. That's just doing your due diligence.
I would NEVER have someone on my podcast or write an article or make a video about them without first reading the book in which they lay out their central ideas. That's just pure laziness. Call yourself a cultural commentator? Get off Twitter occasionally & learn to read.
HARRUMPH.
I'm sorry, but it pisses me off when people won't read. Obviously, James should also read Lindsay's book and/or examine the work of whoever is opposing him. I'd love this to happen. But the number of lazy excuses people on here come up with for not reading something gets my 🐐.
