it’s 4am and I’ve been driving home for 2 days, listening to the subgenres of rock chronologically and I have all of these random fucking facts and newly forming opinions and it’s keeping me wide awake

so skiffle revival, not at all what you would expect from the common ancestor of every single rock sub-genre. genuinely enjoyable though

so we had ska right and that was fine?? And then they were like, need more ska let’s get some two-tune revival over here, and ok, fine we all know that England is a slut for a good revival, this was bound to happen.

and 20 yrs later back on this side of the pond we were like, “oh no u dont, give us that ska this instant!!” & we put our grubby lil imperialist hands all over what’s left of this 40 y/o Jamaican originated genre: third wave ska/ska punk emerges. and that’s when shit gets wild

so then all of this fucking nonesense starts up and ridiculously dressed grown men in fedoras are skanking, calling themselves rudeboys, and just generally appropriating Jamaican culture all over the fucking place

& this has clearly gone on too far, at least we get a lil bit of sublime out of it. they weren’t even very successful until 1996 when their self titled album was released 2 mos after Bradley Nowell’s overdose & its widely agreed upon that ska died with him yet here we are in 2020

and there are masses of ppl holding out for a fourth wave ska revival. pls make it stop this has gone on long enough

my phones going to die in the middle of this rant about the history of goddamn ska and I’ll be alone with my thoughts about .fucking.ska.

so whatever I know that we took a lot from ska and ska punk that completely changed the direction of rock in someways and that our lord and savior Gwen Stefani wouldn’t be what she was without ska influence etc etc the point of this multi-tweet rant is pls let ska rip
