Some clarifications:
1. I'm not quitting SFF writing, reading or squeeing at the success of others.
2. I make a distinction between fans and fandom. Love the former, not loving the latter right now. You don't have to make that distinction as mileage varies.
3. It's totally legit to stay and fight from within. More power to you.
I personally subscribe to this: "The function, the very serious function of racism is distraction. It keeps you from doing your work."

You can read the full quote from Toni Morrison from a speech in 1975.
4. The burden of change...well, I'm not going to say who that should be on. I do not think any organization should tolerate the glorification of racists or the disrespect of marginalised people.
To have a shibboleth is a choice. You need to decide and act accordingly.
5. In the meantime I will be doing my work, unencumbered at least from *this* source of noise. Our lives are full of oppressions that we cannot get away from. I shouldn't have to add optional ones.
6. I will not be using 'Hugo-nominated'. I decided this before the Award Ceremony, which just confirmed something I suspected.
I choose to do this. I do not advocate my choice for anyone else. I am an individual.
I just can't bring myself to use it.
Words have auras.
7. The people who could have made a difference seem to be expressing horror at the disconnect between the winners and the ceremony, yet the horror was not enough to overcome the tolerance of it.
You all thought that shit was okay. You let it happen.
That means something.
