#BlackIsKing

Salatiel

🇨🇲 Media

A thread!
I have read so many tweets about Salatiel’s participation in #BlackIsKing and so far I have seen three sides.

Those FOR him

Those AGAINST him

Those who are NEUTRAL

And of course, bonus, the famous dig at local media.
If you ask me where I stand, I will tell you I stand with all three sides plus the bonus.

However, let me show you how I see it and why I support everyone’s opinion.
THOSE FOR SALATIEL!

Fans of Beyoncé or not, we ALL know Beyoncé is a big deal. Salatiel’s participation in her project is a HUGE not only for him but for the nation as well. FACT!

Beyoncé fans who love “Water” probably went on YouTube to check Salatiel’s work and...
...most likely fell on other Cameroonian artists. Personally, I think it’s a plus.

IMO, the support towards him shouldn’t even be questioned or be hesitated.

We have a Cameroonian in there, let’s support him!
THOSE AGAINST HIM

The criticism I have read, that I deem constructive, towards Salatiel has been on the fact that his scene is lacking Cameroonian culture especially compared to others.

How does the rest of world get to know what Cameroonian culture looks like, “sound” like etc
Salatiel explained himself saying that he had no control & did what he was asked to do. Understandable.

However, he must’ve had control on his outfit.

Considering the fact that the song is about “madiba”, wearing Sanja would’ve been perfect to showcase the Sawa culture.
THOSE WHO ARE NEUTRAL

Who isn’t tired of fighting, tweeting, beefing and explaining??????

Can’t we all just get along????

SPREAD LOVE ♥️

Salatiel is on a huge international BEYONCÉ project and that alone is good for me.

🇨🇲 MEDIA

This point definitely has two sides.

The media gets a lot of criticism for not being proactive and for not pushing forward accomplishments by fellow Cameroonians, home and abroad.

This is true and it’s also false.

Like I said, two sides.
Many Cameroonians already consider the media to be mediocre.

Some also decide which media to pay attention to, especially when their “friends” are in said media.

A lot of media outlets do the work but cuz they are not popular, despite their push, their work gets lost.
The usual strategy most media use to get known is by interviewing mainstream celebrities.

Most celebrities, including the author of the original tweet, don’t grant interviews for x reasons.

That’s okay but don’t bash the media right after when you don’t help make a change.
This is where you know we, media and celebrities, need growth.

We need to put more work on PR. Salatiel’s PR would’ve send a PR package to the media so the media is ready.

HOWEVER, we the media can also reach out for info.

It’s an area that needs MAJOR GROWTH on both sides!
At the end of the day, 🇨🇲 was represented and we should be proud.

We are still rough around the edges but we will get there. It’s just a matter of time.

We need to recognize & own our value!
