#ACSisterhood is important to me because ever since Claudia Auditore was inducted as an Assassin, I knew I wanted a female-led AC game. I loved Ezio and his story but his sister—someone who we saw grow from an Auditore daughter to a fighter on par with her brother—
THAT has always stayed with me. It’s important because AC Unity had the opportunity to have a playable Elise only to be pushed back. It’s important because AC Syndicate shoved Evie to the side—VICTORIA ATKIN had to hold back from speaking out against Ubi—
and the game’s marketing made her practically invisible when the game banked on the fact that THEY WERE TWINS. EQUALS. FIGHTERS ON THEIR OWN RIGHT. It’s important because AC Origins LITERALLY shat on its own FOUNDER, Amunet, who had A F*CKING STATUE IN AC2 in favor of her husband
WHEN SHE HAD ACTED FOR THE CREED FIRST. Bayek was a wonderful protagonist. Bayek’s story still resonates and shakes me. Abubakar’s performance remains top-notch. But as was ALIX’s. HOW MUCH BETTER COULD THE NARRATIVE HAVE BEEN IF AYA WAS WRITTEN TO BE THE LEGEND THAT SHE IS.
It’s important because AC Odyssey had the amazing Melissanthi portray Kassandra, whose journey should have been THE ONLY ONE WE GOT, but once again sold short in favor of marketing a male alternative. WHAT MORE HAVE WE BEEN ROBEED OF WHEN THE TRAIL HAS BEEN THIS DIRTY.
So cheers to everyone speaking against Ubi. Cheers to us players who are disgusted with what happened behind the scenes with a series we spent years following. Cheers to us demanding justice. I don’t want to give up the hard work that people had given to this series.
I don’t want to abandon something so close to my heart when I know our voices matter in demanding change. My love for this series is strong enough that I want those who work on it to love what they do because they’re working in an environment that RESPECTS them.
End rant. Thank you to those who began this hashtag!
