Director Oh Ji-Wang as “Wizard of Oz”

The influence of The Wizard of Oz in this drama is greater than I thought. We’ve established that our main characters are like 3 characters in The Wizard of Oz: the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Cowardly Lion.

The main characters are in a journey to ask the Wizard of Oz for something:
•Scarecrow - brain
•Tinman - heart
•Cowardly Lion - courage

And the similarity of our main leads are uncanny:

•Kang Tae - sense of self (which is found in the brain)
•Moon Yeong - emotions (which is found in the heart)
•Sang Tae - trapped in a box (needs courage to go outside the box) #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay

Then, who is The Wizard of Oz?

I mean, I’ve honestly really thought that “Ah, he’s like the Wizard of Oz” because of his character and how he’s helping our MLs, but I didn’t expect what I discovered.

His name is “Oh Ji-Wang.” The people in the drama usually call him as ‘Director Oh’ or ‘Dr. Oh’ that’s why we tend to overlook how freaking witty his name actually is.

In the Korean alphabet, there is no letter “z,” but instead they change it to “지” which is pronounced as “ji.” That is why words like “pizza” are pronounced as “pijja.”

So if you translate it to English, his name is freaking literally “Oh Z Wang” or “OZ”!!!!!

Fun fact: OZ are actually initials which mean “Oscar Zoroaster” based on the book.

Personality-wise, they are pretty the same. They come off as weird and the Wizard of Oz isn’t actually a sorcerer (but he later learns magic), just a conman/ magician. Just like Dr. Oh, who is a doctor, but he’s so weird that others feel like he’s a quack.

I’m not finished. His other name is “Wang.” I mean, I’m no expert in Korean here but historical dramas taught me that this means “king” in English.

And who is a king? The Wizard of Oz, who is the supreme ruler of the kingdom and in another source, Emerald City.

So his name is literally “OZ King” in English.

This is so witty, I’m literally squealing as I type this.

In the plot, the main characters journey to him to grant them what they wish for, but as it turns out, he is a conman and they realized that what they are looking for were within themselves all along. #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay #PsychoButItsOkay

Perhaps this is just the same as the drama, that our Dr. Oh may have helped our characters in some way, but the things they seek and how they heal are within them. #ItsOkayToNotBeOkay #PsychoButItsOkay
