With a heavy heart I say, the reputation of a once professional Tamil Nadu police force has gone for a toss. This is the gift given by a spineless leadership to the people of this state. 1/n
The damage done to the force is irreparable, and there is no light at the end of the tunnel. It is really very gloomy.

The rot started with the illegal appointment of TK.Rajendran as DGP. 2/n
TK Rajendran lacked command, leadership skills, empathy or even understanding. I would like to recall two shameful incidents. 1) Tying of a banner on the compound of DGP’s office saying “Gutkha Sales Center”. 4/n
2) A constable attempting self immolation as his grievance were not redressed.

TKR further brought shame to the department when his house was searched by the CBI in Gutkha scam. 5/n
Nowhere in the history of TN police a serving Head of Police Force’s house was raided by an agency. This government allowed TKR not to make money, but mint money. To ensure his collection goes unhindered, TKR bent even before a rag picker, if he is from ADMK. 6/n
Almost all ADMK politicians smelt blood and started pulling strings in police stations. Not to be left behind, BJP leaders and its minions demanded their pound of flesh. Police officers, from down to Grade II Constable to the level of Addl DGPs started seeking favours 7/n
from ADMK & BJP leaders for postings. Most of the police officers started flaunting their political connections without any inhibition. At some point, political connection became a badge of honour. 8/n
A senior officer says, even constables approach Minister or MLA for favours. If a constable is connected to a ruling party functionary and capable of pulling strings, and is confident that none can transfer or discipline him, 9/n
why would he respect his Sub Inspector or Inspector ? If this is the case, how can he be disciplined.

The present state of TN police department is it is totally fractured and lacks discipline. Each one flaunts his political connections and none can be disciplined. 10/n
Each ADMK politician has under his wing a battery of police officers. Things have come to such a passe where lumpen are arm-twisting senior officers.

The Chief Minister is not able to select an officer of his choice for important posts. 11/n
He simply obeys the diktats of Delhi. The rot in the force is getting deeper and the morale of the force is going south.

This is the sad state of affairs prevailing in TN 12/12
