Whenever I write stuff from the POV of the Continent gods I end up writing in present tense, and I have decided that this is some sort of metaphor for how they experience time rather than just me thinking that present tense creates a certain distance in these situations.
I mean it can easily be both but one of those sounds way more writerly than the other.
Actually I have no idea how universal that second thing is. Present tense narration makes me feel weird (it's almost midnight I am not going to quantify this rn) but I suppose it probably creates a kind of immediacy in most people?
Wrt gods specifically, I am only writing very short pieces from their povs because to spend too much time with them runs the risk of humanizing them in a way I don't want, and so I'm more likely to use present tense than in something longer just because it's hard for me to
sustain. But also maybe present tense + actions and thoughts the reader probably won't relate to creates a sense of alienation? Idk does this even make sense
It's also probably not a great idea for me to say "I want a specific subset of my stories to alienate the reader to some degree" but how else am I supposed to write gods anyway
