Let me try to put Lampards season in perspective.

A THREAD (dedicated to reactionary fans):
DISCLAIMER: Lampard is not to be immune from criticism, this simply is calling out the plastics who want him out ASAP, and dedicated to those fans who want Sarri back or think he’s better for Chelsea long-term (btw he’s not coming back, if u think that go support Juventus)
We can all agree that defensively we have been shite this season but let’s look at Klopp and Liverpool and how he has built Liverpool into an exciting team that looks poised to be in contention for years.
First let’s examine Liverpool when Klopp took over. Klopp was appointed in October 2015, Liverpool was in 10th place after 8 games, he led them to an 8th place finish in the league and Runner up finishes in both the League cup and Europa league (so that’s 0 trophies)
That summer Klopp did not have a transfer ban and signed 2 major players in Mané and Wij. This lead up to the 16/17 season would be Klopps first full preseason and first full season in charge of Liverpool.
They had a better season where improvement was apparent, Klopp led them to a 4th place finish and UCL qualification but still no trophies failing to advance to either the league or FA Cup finals
Klopps 2 full preseason summer prior to 17/18 would prove crucial for signings as Salah and Robo were both brough in to further implement His “heavy metal football”. Midway through the season in January Klopp made his biggest signing in VVD, note Coutinho was sold in this window.
The team would still only finish 4th in the league and a runner up finish in the UCL proved very promising to a team that was exciting in many areas of the pitch. Still no trophies though.
In his 3rd full preseason (4th season) Liverpool signed: Keita, Fabinho, & Alisson. The 18/19 season would be a very promising season for the team. Klopp has finally created a team that was designed by him front to back.
He would reap the rewards of this team as he would go on to win the UCL this season and finish second place to Man City in the league. THERES 1 trophy and it took 3.5 years and 7 transfer windows to get there.
Forward to last summer no real signings were warranted or made by the club as they head into the 19/20 season as predictably competitive in ALL their competitions.
In 19/20 they would go on to win the PL and CWC. (And the UEFA super-community shield if you want to be nit picky) trophy count is now at 3 (or 4 if you’re a nonce). This took 5 season and 4 full season/preseasons. The This is where we are today.
Now let’s look at Lampards first season after losing our best player and club Legend Eden Hazard and not being able to sign any players. Lampard has groomed youth and got Chelsea into 4th place against all the odds and pundit predictions as well as a runners up in the FA Cup.
it’s important to note how quickly things changed for Liverpool. We are only a VVD-like and Alisson-like signing away from sustained excellence. And that’s before you factor In the exciting talent going forward we already posses and have brought in.
So before you say #Lampardout or claiming Lampard is out of his depth please think positively about what Chelsea can look like in 2 years from now, Liverpool went from finishing 4th to UCL and PL champions over a span of 2.5 years.
Patience is key, it’s easy to try and build a team to just win one trophy but Lampard is bear to build a team that wins trophIES (that’s multiple) . Team that will keep opponents waking up in a cold sweat in the middle of the night.
Again not saying Lampard is immune to criticism, but it’s important to realize that we are building something special in West London, something that’s here to last. I’d rather we take the time to do that, then end up like Arsenal or spurs celebrating Europa league qualification.
But let me know what you lot think, How do you feel about Lampards first season?
Do you think Lampard is still the man for Chelsea?
