I know this isn’t relevant to Aussies and I know lockdowns are distressing and hard even when aimed at the common good. But these restrictions and reactions make me think again about the lives of girl children I’ve met in other places...
Girls who spend whole chunks of their existence moving no further than 5km from home. Forbidden to exercise because it’s frowned upon. Sometimes unable to go to the bathroom until it gets dark outside. Sometimes going days with little food. Limited social contact outside family.
So yeah, I know discomfort is relative and subjective but my mind turns towards these girls. Because no matter how bad we have it here, no matter how constrained we feel, we still have so much. (Even if the highlight of the week is a trip to a supermarket full of fresh food.)
