So, Creator Insider spent 15 minutes without discussing why community captions don't have greater usage.

(threading my thoughts below)
It's great they acknowledge that a lot of people don't like the caption editor--

But they don't address YouTube never consulted fan-subbing community on how collaborative workflows function. Like adding "quality control" role to prevent abusive submissions until 11 months ago.
There is no mention if they consulted professional subtitlers on how they handle workflows. Many subtitlers don't like automatically-generated scripts-- they use other forms of automated tools to speed up the workflow.

For example: https://www.youtube.com/c/RafaelaLombardino/playlists
They never addressed YouTube actively hides community contributions.

Or that it's only available on desktop, which only 20%-30% of YouTube users interact with the platform with.

Or that you need to know the channel ID in order to access the community contribution tab.
Not once they mentioned a lot of channel owners don't know they received submissions. https://twitter.com/FoldableHuman/status/1288941830277459968
Nor does YouTube talk about how anonymity plays a role in distrust of accepting contributions.

Whoever pushed the publish button should had never been anonymous to the public. Whoever contributed shouldn't be anonymous to the channel owner under the hood.
And YouTube doesn't really talk about how this function exists, but the majority of video uploaders didn't know they can rename subtitle tracks.

Knowing if the subtitle is fan-submitted or officially approved would go a long way in building trust.
YouTube doesn't talk about how some uploaders literally have to remind people to turn on the captions.

Or that marginalized language users (eg. sign language people) are harassed for uploading non-English videos, already subtitled, with waves of commentators asking for subtitles
But sure "people don't use the features" instead of "oops, it's our fault that it's not used more often".

You are terrible, YouTube.
