Combining VIC and SA, there were 0.38 fledglings/pair, which almost met our recovery target of 0.4 fledglings/pair for #HoodedPlover population maintenance!

In VIC, volunteers monitored 137 #HoodedPlover breeding pairs (great effort!) that produced 31 fledglings. While each one of these fledglings represents an enormous effort by our volunteers and partners, sadly 0.23 fledglings/pair comes well under our 0.4 recovery target.

We can have an occasional bad #HoodedPlover season, like in 2011/2012, largely due to natural conditions out of our control. We hope next season will be back on track!
This enormous effort across VIC has been possible through @DELWP_Vic’s Icon Species grants & @AusLandcare.
Low #HoodedPlover success in VIC contrasts with SA. What a season in SA! Volunteers monitored 93 breeding pairs & confirmed 56 fledglings, which means an excellent year with 0.6 fledglings/pair. This year’s record goes to the Yorke Peninsula with 0.77 fledglings/pair!
If this is the first time you see this kind of numbers of and have no idea whether these are good or bad, check out our long-term figure to put this #HoodedPlover breeding season into context!
