strangest response i’ve gotten so far from dor conversations:

when i say i left because i hated it and my mental health was rapidly declining, 9/10 times the person i’m talking to goes “we all hate it”
1) you shouldn’t. i know usna is hard and there are tough times and everything, but you should not put yourself up to this job if you’re not passionate about it. the navy and marine corps does not need MORE salty officers.
2) ok if you hate it then you have two options: use whatever platform you have the academy and actively work to change what you hate

OR, if you have no platform or don’t wish to be an officer.... then leave.
so my response to these ppl is always “ok so change what you hate” and they go “i can’t” so i go “ok then leave” and they go “lol”
all this to say it’s a bit disturbing to see all these people truly hate where they go. like i said, i completely understand the turmoil of usna and i know it’s not meant to be loved 24/7, but you HAVE to believe in the academy and be passionate about whatever job you get.
and if you can’t be/are not, then it’s better to leave than be an angry, petty, and shitty officer.
