ok for the people who complain about how “every girl on edm twitter has an onlyfans” or “edm twitter is becoming onlyfans twitter” - you are in a scene populated by sex workers. the rave fashion you love frequently comes straight from styles invented by sex workers.
a lot of the people who start the small businesses with the fashion and jewelry and art you love start those businesses with money from sex work. a lot of up and coming DJs and producers pay their bills from sex work.
why is that? well first of all it’s a job, so why does anyone have a job? we need money. but it’s also a flexible job with low barriers to entry. raving, having tattoos, etc can negatively affect people’s ability to get “regular” jobs
and “regular” jobs can be very incompatible with pursuing an artistic career. it’s not an accident that most successful artists start out with money and connections. not having to work to make money frees up that time you need to pursue your craft.
so do we only want rich, well-connected people to be able to pursue artistic careers? or do we want poor and middle class people to have that opportunity, too? because those people need a way to make money and have enough time & flexibility to pursue their art.
even if someone isn’t pursuing an artistic career but they just want to live an unconventional life or go to a few music festivals every year, they need money for that, too. onlyfans is a way a lot of people are able to pay for a life they can ENJOY.
so especially if you are someone who gets ANY help from your family with money (yes that includes you living in their house or them paying for your college), you truly are not entitled to an opinion on how people make their money.
*especially* considering that those people do a lot to create the scene you love so much. sex workers are not invading the scene, we are the scene, and onlyfans in particular has opened up so much opportunity for new artists to make a living & pursue our dreams.
i personally do not care to see spread open booty cheeks on my tl when i open twitter so i don’t follow or i just mute accounts that post it (or i follow them on my nsfw). you are welcome to do the same! and none of that requires shitting on people who are just doing their job.
some people spend all their time on twitter promoting their work. there are plenty of DJs and jewelry makers and real estate agents who do that, too. if you don’t respond to those kind of accounts, just don’t follow them.
if you simply do not agree with sex work, you’re wrong and bigoted and really need to educate yourself and this scene does not need to accommodate you in any way so either grow and change or fuck off and stick to christian rock concerts. thanks!
