*Grabs soapbox*

Mennonites need to have better/more conversations about the difference between *politics* and *human rights/justice.*

Today in a seminar when LGBT inclusion and anti-racism came up someone said that Mennonites needed to not be involved in "politics."
Yes, traditionally Anabaptists stay away from "politics," but politics weren't even mentioned! Avoiding politics has been easy for White Euro-decended Mennonites. We do a HUGE disservice to the broader church when things like *identity* and *justice* get called "politics."
White Anabaptist directly benefited from staying out of politics and being "quiet In the land" by getting "free" stolen land from the government. But, now when talking about LGBTQIA+ inclusion, anti-racism, and how to work with immigrants and undocumented folks...
We label that "politics" as a means of avoiding/silencing the "issue" and not needing to admit to the fact that exclusion is *good* for those who are already *in.*

Jesus preaches radical inclusion. Jesus preaches in the full humanity of all people.
Jesus didn't talk about "politics" like, naming roads, setting political budgets, taxing, zoning, etc.

He *did* however talk to the full humanity of women, the full humanity of immigrants, the full humanity of folks labeled "other" by dominant society.
It isn't "political" to state that I believe undocumented folks are fully created in the Image of God and should be treated as such. Not when I say LGBTQIA+ folks are created in the Imago Dei, not when I say BIPOC are fully created in the Imago Dei.

*end rant*
