looking for aesthetics like old céline by phoebe philo? look no further.
— a thread.
first, let’s talk about the philo aesthetic.

at céline, phoebe philo developed a style that goes beyond her designs & brand. she created a fashion lifestyle that lives on even after her departure from fashion. minimalist, simple, with pops of color done in neat ways.
bottega veneta.

comprisons between bottega & céline were made the moment daniel lee presented his pf19 collection. minimalist with a touch of weird, bv has lots of things in common w/ céline, & it’s no coincidence. daniel lee worked under philo at céline before going to bottega.
the row.

created by mary-kate & ashley olsen, the row is a natural successor to old céline. neutrals (always, neutrals), oversized coats & trousers, and excellent tailoring define the row, just as it defined céline.
loewe.

j.w anderson’s time at loewe has crafted a distinct aesthetic for the brand: minimalist & clean-cut, but at the same time, laid back & fun. also?... farms. i get farm energy from loewe sometimes. the gate bag is very reminiscent of the céline belt bag, amongst other bags.
jil sander.

jil sander’s minimalist, modern aesthetic had been established long before phoebe philo took over at céline and redefined the brand. it’s a great companion to old céline, with its simple cuts and large tote bags.
hermés.

hermés’ ready-to-wear is the definition of understated, quiet luxury. the flowy, clean cut style of nadège vanhee-cybulski’s work for the historic house is similar to phoebe philo’s fashion philosophy (see what i did there?). hermés does minimalist fashion really well.
cos.

cos is a mid-range retailer owned by h&m. they specialize in basics (i haven’t really found any good statement pieces from them) and a lot of their pieces have an abstract quality to them. while cos isn’t high fashion, their clothes look expensive, and are great quality.
raf simons.

this one is more towards the male philophiles who want to wear something minimal & clean yet unique. i think the spring 2017 collection represents those qualities best. sure, raf simons does louder collections too, but this is a signature style & look of the brand.
