MANCHESTER UNITED: Pre 2020/21 transfer review

{ #TransferThread}

#ManchesterUnited #MUN #Manchester #RedDevils #ManU 👹
It was far from a perfect season for United, but CL football will return to #OldTrafford next season, so it’s kinda “mission complete” for the #RedDevils.

Just like in #City’s case, #United as well, has to address defensive issues first of all.

So let’s start the review..
1. GK

De Gea is imo the flop of the season in that United squad. Compared to Kepa, I don’t think MUN are gonna let go of him yet, all hopes are for him to get some rest, and come back stronger than ever

2. Defence

OGS spent around £130m to strenghten the defence with #Maguire and #AWB. Words like 'consistent’ or ‘settled’ won’t really be able to describe the back-line.

On the other hand, MUN conceded 36 goals (3rd best in the league), still, something doesn’t feel right.

1/2
#Rojo, #Jones, #Dalot need to be dealt with. #Smalling will sign with #Roma where he was on loan

The weakest link is the LB spot, where MUN has #Shaw and #Williams: I’d suggest bringing somebody solid instead.

#Lille CB #Magalhaes linked

AWB
Maguire
Lindelof

3. Midfield

Starting from the center, #Pogba’s been injured most of the season (as always), but #McTominay and #Fred stepped up really well.

Bunch of players in the midfield who are just sitting on the bench: #Mata, #Lingard, #Pereira gotta head out.

1/5
#Fernandes appreciation

You can’t deny, MUN has changed 360° after his arrival. His performance and creativity is vital for the team

Playing only 1/3 of the season, Fernandes managed to score 8 and assist 7 (in 18 matches).

Unarguably, player of the season for the Reds.

2/5
#Greenwood appreciation

Youngster of the season? The kid was getting occasional chances, but after newcomer Dan #James started underperforming, he stepped up in the RW and contributed with 10⚽️ and an assist.

Wonder where he’ll end up if #Sancho arrives.

3/5
Like I said, Dan #James was exciting to watch in the beginning, but started fading away and left the XI

I came to the thought that MUN misses some quality depth in the midfield (NOT #Lingard): James #Rodriguez? #Grealish? #Coman?

Who do you see joining the Reds?

4/5
Jadon #Sancho

Seems like #BVB accepted MUN’s last bid for the 20y/o winger.

Given how productive Jadon has been this season in #Bundesliga (17⚽️, 16🅰️), I think he’ll be an amazing signing for the reds

While waiting for the announcement, read the thread about the transfer. https://twitter.com/chegiaevara/status/1288882486483836928
4. Attack

We saw #Martial, #Rashford, #Greenwood and #Oghalo feature in the front for the Reds this season.

#Ighalo landed in Manchester literally outta nowhere from China on loan, just as back up I guess.

Overall, we can’t say MUN had problems with finishig, but..
Out of all these options, Martial, originally a LW, performed best as the front man. After his injury OGS swapped him and Rash in positions. Tony ended up scoring 17 (so did Rash) and assisted 6.

Overall, the attacking duo has been wonderful
So if OGS can pull of the #Sancho deal, enrich the team with some depth (especially in the midfield) and get a decent LB..with the attack on fire, the Reds can and will challenge the title!

Targets 🎯
#Sancho 78%
#Magalhaes 46%

Possible 🤔
#King
#Rodriguez
#Coman
#Mendes
That’s it from me for the #United transfer review!

Let me know which position should they concentrate on strengthening, who would you wanna see in the red shirt in particular? Is Sancho worth it?

RT’s are appreciated..

Much love..❤️⚽️🇦🇲
