I look forward to their forthcoming prosecution for wearing political uniforms under the Public Order Act 1936, as correctly applied to Britain First in the recent past.
Wearing a branded fleece was sufficient, in conjunction with ethnonationalist politics, to be viewed as 'intimidating'. I agree entirely. The same standard must surely be applied to branded stab vests.
I do not want to normalise militarised protests because the police are anxious at being perceived to be unsympathetic to the cause.
As I've written before, morality based policing handing out exemptions from the rules based on perceived worthiness makes a mockery of the law. http://marginallyproductive.com/2020/06/11/morality-policing/
This protest was, as ever, "not authorised". The police merely decided not to enforce the law, and asked them to end it by 8pm so they would be able to arrest people attending other unauthorized gatherings.
