the problem with this mentality is that it leads to the original community being discredited and gaslit because those using the language will, whether knowingly or unknowingly, appropriate the language as being their own creation. there are alot of people who believe AAVE is just https://twitter.com/ironmaddcn/status/1289644651108999168
“stan twitter slang” which completely disrespects and discredited the black community, which has been using AAVE since long before the internet was even created. there are countless white celeb “comedians” who get their large followings based on how much they use AAVE, which of
course, they believe is stan twitter slang. that’s why the black community has been fighting so much to get black artists and creators the spotlight they deserve from THEIR OWN creations. like how they fought to get the black girl who created the famous “Savage” by megan thee
stallion tiktok dance her due credit. i believe what prompted this was a few or one white girls doing the dance and becoming popular from it without ever giving her credit. because that’s what has always happened. minority groups, primarily the black community, creates something
and other communities, primarily whites, steal and profit from it. this AAVE conversation is about more than just a few words in a few tweets; it’s about the black community demanding the credit, respect, and cease of appropriation they deserve for their own creations and cultures
