If a black man trips over a white man’s foot in an airplane aisle and breaks his arm, the question of why the foot was in the way matters:

Was he trying to trip him because he hates black people or was he absent minded while reading Kendi’s book and forgot where his foot was?

Yes the arm is broken no matter what. But are we really supposed to ignore intention in this situation and how to address the problem of tripping over feet in the aisle?
