A history of neopronouns
Ungendered pronouns in English date back as far as the 1300s. ... The pronoun set was meant to be taken out later, but quickly caught on in popularity, leading to the rising popularity +
of “Spivak pronouns,” based off Michael Spivak, the person who first used them.
♡。゚ CO PRONOUNS 。♡
Co/Co/Co's/Co's/Coself. These pronouns were created by Mary Orovan in 1970! By the way if you'd like to learn more there is information about them here! https://nonbinary.miraheze.org/wiki/English_neutral_pronouns
♡。゚ E PRONOUNS 。♡
E/Em/Eir/Eirs/Eirself. These are an example of the Spivak pronouns that I mentioned earlier! E/Em pronouns were first used by Michael Spivak in his manual called 'The Joy of TeX' so that no person in his examples had a specified gender!
They started become more popular in 1991 into a chat site called LambdaMOO since people liked using pronouns that didn't specify what gender they were (since the pronouns are gender neutral).
♡。゚ EY PRONOUNS 。♡
Ey/em/eir/eirs/emself. These are called the Elverson pronouns, created by Christine M. Elverson in 1975. These pronouns originated from when Christine intended to win a contest. The Elverson pronouns were used by Eric Klein in the Laws of Oceania+
1993, to be gender-inclusive. Other examples of these pronouns being used are : CJ Carter's novel, Que Será Serees is about a species of people with a single gender, who are all called by Elverson's "ey" pronouns.
The Elverson pronouns have also been used in K.A Cook's book called 'The Misstery Man' in which the
nb main character Darcy uses 'ey' and eir pronouns.
♡。゚ NE PRONOUNS 。♡ /1
Many sets of pronouns use 'ne' in the nominative form. One of such sets is one of the oldest sets of neopronouns ever, but not all of its forms are out there. ( ne, nim, nis, (not recorded), (not recorded)). The set was created +
around 1850.
# ne, nem, nir, nirs, nemself #
In Spectra, a comic by Cori Walters, characters with nby genders are called by these pronouns. Walters uses this pronoun for one of the three gender roles in a species that has only one sex, and all people choose their gender/ gender roles.
The comic started in 2013 , and from what I've gathered it's still running to this day!
I'm a bit tired so I may continue this tomorrow / in a day or two <3
♡。゚ VE PRONOUNS ♡。゚
There are several sets of pronouns that use "ve" in the nominative form, the earliest of which was created in 1970.
# ve, ver, vis, vis, verself #
There are a few examples of this set of pronouns being used in fiction. In Keri Hulme's mystery novel The Bone People (1984), a character is called by ve pronouns.
