My big find of the day. 1970 film showing a U.S. Navy patrol boat in Vietnam flying a Confederate flag. I say "find" advisedly; because the flag is noted in a description made by a sharp-eyed cataloger at @NMAAHC. This is the @amarchivepub streaming link.

Advance the film to 17:35 to see it. This was made for Black Journal, the public television show produced by Bill Greaves and recently digitized. Producer/director of this episode on the Black GI is Kent Garrett. Excellent cinematography is by Clive Davidson (Wild Style, 1993). +
I looked for this after seeing @TreBracey's tweet with a great clip of his grandfather. @NMAAHC catalog describes it as "Black Marines in a mess hall at Camp Hansen, Okinawa discuss the unfair treatment they've experienced." Entire film is worth viewing. + https://twitter.com/TreBracey/status/1288159476143579143
One caution, as in other American newsfilm from the Vietnam War, there are images showing bodies of dead Vietnamese that seem to be being mishandled or dealt with callously. Also, the way G.I.s talk about killing Vietnamese without any political consciousness is hard to hear. +
Black Journal is an excellent series overall. The opening of the show in a TV studio with dashiki-wearing hosts greeting us with the Swahili word for "Hello" places the entire series in its cultural context. Many of their staff from in front of the camera are no longer with us. +
I note that the Managing Editor of the series, Hazel V. Bright is still here. Bright went on to get a Masters in Urban Planning from MIT and became an educator. Here is a 1973 piece she wrote, "TV Versus Black Survival" for Black World. https://books.google.com/books?id=UDoDAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA14&ots=HuMdfMER-A&dq=%22hazel%20v.%20bright%22&p
