THREAD: As Summer Baseball 2020 winds down there was one glaring thing that I noticed while recruiting.

As I watched the majority of pitchers warm-up for a start, there was a lack of a pre-game/post game routine. Majority of the pitchers played catch in the outfield to 90 ft...
Then threw 10-15 pitches in the bullpen and went and sat down and chatted with their teammates until the umpires showed up.

When the game started, majority of them struggled early with walks, deep counts and etc. About the 3rd or 4th inning they would then settle in...
and begin to cruise.

Then after their outing they would just sit down with no cool down. The rest of the weekend they would show up in shorts and just hang out.

Towards the end of summer their velocity is down and they start to wonder why that is...
Everyone then immediately jumps to mechanics and trying to fix their mechanics in the middle of the summer, but I feel if their daily, weekly, and monthly habits were better they could keep their velo up all summer long.
Pitchers should be looking at: are they preparing themselves for competition? What is their nutrition like? What are they doing during the week leading up to their next start? Are they getting into the weight room during the week?...
No matter the talent level, when I see a pitcher that takes their pre-game protocol seriously I make a point to watch that kid pitch in a game because when he gets to the college level his routines will already put him a step above other kids coming in to our pitching staff.
