I've decided to start a podcast on open heart surgery. My PhD is in early Christianity, but I should be fine because I have a heart and am also really interested in the topic.
And you should know that on my podcast I will be critiquing research on open heart surgery and offering alternatives. If any cardiovascular surgeons say I’m not qualified, they’re just appealing to authority.
If anyone thinks that this sounds like a bad idea, please remember three things:

1) I have a PhD
2) I have a heart
3) I am passionate about hearts
Some people may say that I am unqualified to speak about open heart surgery. They will say that my PhD isn’t applicable.

To these I would respond: look at all of the people who take me seriously? Checkmate.
Who are these people, you might ask? Simple. They are people who, like me, have an interest in open heart surgery. They have also thought a lot about it and talked with other people about it.
Do we hate actual heart surgeons? FUCK NO! We have great respect for heart surgeons who agree with us and even tell us sometimes that we’re special. If a heart surgeon doesn’t agree with us, it’s because their education has blinded them to the truth.
Still unconvinced that my thoughts on open heart surgery are without merit? I would refer you to my blog and twitter account, as well as to my peer-reviewed publications in the field of early Christianity.
One final note: if you think all of this sounds insane, that’s because you hate hearts as well as people who have hearts. And I don’t believe you when you say that you have a heart. And I would know. After all, I am a doctor.
Lots of people have followed me because of this thread. Guess that means I really am a surgeon now.
If anyone takes issue with what I’ve said here, I would refer you to some of my past tweets, which should clear things up.
