Jokes aside, I’m glad they’re banning Tik Tok as they’re censorship promotes harmful rhetoric. They silence BLM activists, those who speak against China’s genocide of Uighur Muslims, the LGBTQ+ community, users who are poor, those with deformities, “ugly” users, the list goes on.

To go in depth... on BLM they’ve: had racist algorithms to limit Black Tik Tok creators’ content on the main pages. When hashtags like #blacklivesmatter was used or featured protest videos, it wouldn’t show up and Tik Tok said it was a “glitch”.

On those that spoke against the Uighur Muslim genocide they: banned a teenager’s account @ferozaazizz who posted a video condemning the Chinese government over their genocide, yes, Genocide of Uighur Muslims.

They lifted the ban ofc after we called them out on it but they defended their actions saying they don’t allow content that has imagery relating to terrorist figures.

So why don’t they ban users that had imagery on Trump? I’d say he’s a terrorist figure for being okay with white supremacy, taking KKK slogans instead of vilifying them, sympathizing with white supremacist/neo-nazi protestors in Charlottesville, VA.

On the LGBTQ+ community they: had an entire section of rules in their moderation guidelines that said to ban videos that depict homosexuality.

This is discriminatory and horrible and the effects of suppressing LGBTQ+ voices in the media has MANY harmful mental health effects.

On users that are poor they: shadowbanned users who filmed videos in environments that are “shabby and dilapidated, such as, not limited to: slums, rural fields... dilapidated housing, construction sites, etc.”

Like what? Why are you shaming them for their situation?

On censorship towards those who have deformities or are “ugly”: they did it under pretenses of preventing bullying.

But censoring them tells them that they need to look a certain way to be “good enough”. That’s not true AT ALL. Y’all are beautiful and societal standards are bs.

So yeah. They literally censor everything and with the worst intent ever. Their means are not justified. I do not and can’t stand by a platform that silences activists and different groups and different people that are amazing and valid.
