it’s no secret that Hollywood LOVES making movies about ancient Egypt, movies like "The Exodus","The Ten Commandments" , "Cleopatra" and "The Mummy" are proof of that.
but aside from being about ancient Egypt, most of these movies have NOTHING in common*

with what ancient egypt actually looked like. especially it’s people.
hollywood has always loved to portray ancient egyptians as only white people ( with a shit ton of orange foundation and bronzer)

in the movie "Exodus", white actors played the roles of egyptian royalty while black and other poc actors played lower class citizens or thiefs.

in another movie called Gods Of Egypt , white actors played the roles of ancient egyptian gods , which represents white supremacy. white people being worshipped by non-white people. and it’s the furthest you could get from what ancient Egypt was actually like.

white-washing ancient egypt is gonna change the way a lot of people look at history. from ancient egyptian art and stories we know that ancient egyptians were black or had reddish, olive or yellow skin tones, from research the sphinx was even proven to have nubian features+

even ancient greek and roman writers refered to them as black.

white washing egyptians is so messed up. ancient egypt was an amazing civilization and it’s a symbol of pride and wonder still til this day. and when people look at egypt ( modern or ancient) they ALWAYS ignore it’s african history.

studies have shown that King Tut was black and all of ancient egyptian royalty were in fact, pocs.

by only hiring white actors to play the role of pocs, not only is hollywood being racist as fuck , but they’re also making the chances of ACTUAL pocs actors landing roles in movies. if arab,black or mixed race actors aren’t used to tell stories of black, arab or mixed-race+

people then what kind of jobs are they landing? arab-american actors are only thought of when a movie is trying to cast someone to play the role of a terrorist and african-american actors when they need actors to portray "thiefs" or "slaves".

and this is so fucked up because it’s sending a message that white people are responsible for all achievements( like ancient egyptian civilization) and it’s re-inforcing racial hierarchy ( white people are the good guys , pocs the bad guys) so it’s basically saying+
