It is time. This is for TLJ fans, or anyone who loved Luke in TLJ. Here, I'm gonna play a little devils advocate so that you can understand someone else's perspective, and I hope I do well at playing devil's advocate. And this is to give a better understanding. This isn't a 1/
parody making fun of them, or a rebuttal. It is just a combination of arguments I've seen from people. So with that cleared up, we can begin.
So, the first question to ask is what is the root problem. Is it that Luke's broken? Is it hatred of him not being a badass hero? No. 2/
So, the first question to ask is what is the root problem. Is it that Luke's broken? Is it hatred of him not being a badass hero? No. 2/
It's more of how Luke became broken that's the issue. According to TLJ Luke became broken due to him trying to murder his nephew. Even if he never would follow through, he thought about this psychotic act. And there lies the deep issue. The real Luke would never do that. So 3/
then comes the question why wouldn't he do that? Well, we see back in ROTJ a character who loves the darkest of people. He sees the good in Vader, when no one else did. He went to save Vader. Yet here, he's thinking about killing a little boy for fear of his darkness. That is 4/
wrong on many levels. Than there is the fact Luke is a Jedi master. He's older, wiser. He shouldn't be making these same foolish mistakes. He should have grown over the years. Does he need to be perfect? No. But to keep him in immaturity seems off. And then one might say, "Well
what about Return of the Jedi? Luke tried to kill Vader when he threatened Leia? Ben Threatened everything he loved. So doesn't this show consistency?" There are two routes one could go here. The first one is one could say these situations are completely different contexts. 6/
In ROTJ we have a kid being goaded by the most evil man in the universe and his own father, and he's in the most stressful situation as he's in battle. In TLJ we have a grown man not in danger, but just in a hut with a sleeping boy. An innocent boy as well, where as Vader is an
evil child killer who's brought terror across the galaxy. That threat against Leia could actually occur. Ben was innocent and had done nothing wrong, so the thought shouldn't even come to Luke over an innocent boy with no goading. So that's the first way. The second way can 8/
accept the contexts are the same, yet reject it on the basis that in ROTJ Luke learned not to do that anymore. After cutting off Vader's hand, he realized he had to keep his inner darkness under control. He learned his lesson, and would further follow this lesson till the end 9/
of his days. There's no reason for Luke to forget a lesson from the most important point in his life. So in conclusion, it makes no sense to saw Luke is consistent. He contradicts everything he believed in and stood for. Thank you.
Now this definitely isn't everything one can
Now this definitely isn't everything one can
discuss about Luke. And if I missed anything about Luke trying to kill Kylo, please tell me. Or if I misrepresented any argument, or made an argument weaker, please tell me. I tried to tell the arguments I've heard together in the best light. I hope this helps people 10/
understand where people are coming from when they say Luke is inconsistent. I find it best to understand others beliefs. Not only can you better discuss with them, but it can be easier to convince if that is your goal as well. And one can make less assumptions. So thank you 11/
to everyone I have spoken with on this. I couldn't have done anything like this if we haven't endlessly debated on the subject. I have made many friends on here who disagree with me, and I hope I haven't misrepresented you here. Thanks for reading, MTFBWY, and God bless. END/
