Reasons why The Sims 3’s open world WAS beneficial to the game and should return: A THREAD
The open world made finding collectibles like rocks, gems and seeds an engaging experience. The sims 4 had those capsules or whatever but they aren’t fun to find because it’s such a closed off area.
It gave us the best oceans in the game. These kinds of oceans wouldn’t be possible in a closed world (see Sims 4 lackluster oceans...)
Rabbit holes added to immersion. A lot of ppl don’t like them, but think about how it added just a little more uniqueness to the career your sims choose. Careers don’t feel unique when every sim just fades off the lot then fades back later.
You can stalk ur neighbors. You can follow a sim around during their day to day life without ever playing them. Because sims have real schedules that they carry out daily.
It made owning a car feel important. Now it was actually beneficial to purchase a car unless u wanna spend ur entire life traveling the town in a taxi.
It gave a massive sense of freedom! It feels so good to get an overview of the world and to know that anywhere you see you can go. Every building, even rabbit holes have actual functions and aren’t just set dressing. The world are beautiful AND functional.
Final Point: it was an actual selling point for the game. A real new feature that added MORE gameplay. Some ‘new’ Sims 4 features simply can’t relate.
I made this thread specifically in response to the claim that "open world isn't essential for a sims game" because people seem to think they have the ultimate say on what OTHER people would like in the sims. Don't tell other people what they will and won't like ;)
