'people with a cervix' is factual and specific language. If you have a cervix, you need to get a cervical cancer check. Perhaps you're a trans man or nonbinary and have a cervix, thus need to get one. Perhaps you're a woman who's had a trachelectomy, and thus don't need to
being factual and inclusive doesn't 'erase' women... women are also people?? It's just accurate medical language to describe a specific thing. I'm so bored of the chat around this, can't imagine how fed up trans and non-binary ppl are
this comes up every other week and it's so stupid. It always gets derailed and turned into debate around single sex spaces and then debating trans people's right to exist, too, so ends up being incredibly harmful
I'll give you a dumb analogy for people who genuinely don't get it. You're at a BBQ and they're handing out burger buns inside. You have a burger, and the majority of people who have burgers at the BBQ are women. The host calls out 'people with burgers, come get your buns'
if then in ALL situations you were referred to as a 'person with a burger', yes, that might be a bit weird. But this is *specifically related to giving buns to people with burgers*, so it's accurate and means the man with a burger at the BBQ isn't being excluded
to kick off and go 'I AM A WOMAN, NOT JUST A PERSON WITH A BURGER' at this BBQ is just like... okay, cool, fine, no one's saying you're not, we're just trying to make sure everyone with a burger gets a bun.
analogy over. Yes, I did have a burger yday and yes, I am craving another. Someone invite me to a veggie-friendly BBQ.
I’m muting this now for my own sanity.
After a night of explaining and arguing, think these two tweets are the ones that broke me
