1/ This is a huge political story –The 'Leaders Group' whose members are worth at least £50bn has given £130m to the Tory Party and has secret quarterly meetings with the PM and Cabinet ministers. Its members are mostly involved in Hedge Funds, the City and fossil fuels.

2/ The Tories along with right-wing parties abroad have discovered that with the decline of the old industrial economy and the working class communities and organisations, insecure and frightened people have sought security and found identity in an emotive tribal nationalism.

3/ Tribalism, like other human social relations is highly emotional. Once a tribal identification has been made it is seldom broken. The Tories have discovered that as long as they spout patriotic slogans they have a support base which won't punish their failures.

4/ With a tribal support base that won't punish their failures, whether economic or the deaths of tens of thousands, the Tories don't have to represent ordinary businesses or the middle classes. Instead they have been able to sell themselves totally to their super-rich paymasters

5/ A kleptotribal combination of oligarchic money and tribal nationalist support isn't invincible. The Tories' tribal support base is probably only about 35% of the electorate. If opposition parties cooperate in a general election then the Tories can be beaten.
