Today's Hugos reinforces how hostile the old guard can be to new writers who are not white or cishet.
And it reinforces the feelings I've had - that sff is not welcoming to us non white folks. All micro aggressions, the gaslighting, the mispronounciation of our names.

It hurts.
That was why I used J. Damask. That you know, Asian names don't sell. That was 11 years ago. The field has changed slightly.
Today's ceremony just reinforced the feeling of feeling unwelcomed. It also reinforced the anger and the disappointment I feel.
We can do better, can we?
We can treat people, trad and indie, living in the Anglophonic world and in countries considered "exotic", with compassion and kindness. With respect .

Right?
One day we don't need to prove how ____ we are. One day it will be a meritocracy.

But unless we don't confront whiteness, misogyny and racism head on, that day will not even materialise.

Then who am I to speak?
