Hello! Here's my daily thread on coronavirus stats globally.

Today:

- New cases approaching a plateau, globally, as many countries move past a peak.
- Peru and Mexico are a disaster.
- Spain’s second wave is getting worse.
- UK falls out of the top 10.
Big picture: New cases appear to be approaching a plateau, globally.

Deaths have also flattened.

Many countries appear to have moved past a peak in the last few days.
Iran has pushed the UK out of the top 10 countries with most cases.

There is now only one European country (Spain) in that top 10.
US: Cases in a gently decline.

Deaths are still trending up by about +100 per day.
Texas: Cases declining but only just. It’s a real struggle.

Deaths still trending up and currently around 300 per day.

One worry: cases might remain elevated like this for a long period.
California: Cases still in sharp decline.

But deaths still rising. 191 deaths yesterday - a new record.
Florida: Cases in solid decline.

256 - record-high new deaths.
Georgia: Cases are settling into an elevated plateau. This is bad.

Deaths are setting in an elevated plateau as low days move up.
Illinois: Cases rising unchecked to 2000 per day.

Deaths have yet to react but they are not declining.
Arizona: Cases still in solid decline.

Deaths look like they have passed a peak.
Brazil: 1,000 people have died every day since May 30.
India: Cases and deaths rising unchecked.
Russia: Deaths falling but it’s uneven.
South Africa: Coming down from a very high peak.

New deaths may be following.
Mexico: Deaths and cases still elevated.
Peru: A dramatic second wave of cases is producing a second peak in deaths.
Chile: Deaths still declining but the decline has slowed.
Spain: New cases are not under control.

Deaths remain at zero/single digits.
Iran: Cases remain high.

Deaths are high but moderating.
UK: Cases are slowly rising toward 1000 per day. This is why Boris has reimposed restrictions.

Deaths flat at about 64 per day.
