Why the Chibnall Era is my Favourite Modern Era
I think the RTD & Moffat Eras are amazing, but there’s something about this era I really love. I love Chibnall’s boldness. He isn’t afraid to take Doctor Who in a completely different direction, which he knows he will get hate for, he has guts.
He has mastered the big three villains. The Master, Daleks and Cybermen. All brilliantly portrayed in their specific stories. The Daleks scary again, a unique terrifying Cyberman, and a magnificent Master.
I love Series 11 for its Standalone, non arc stories like Classic Who. I adore how much this era resembles Classic Who, from its radiophonic music, ridiculous aliens, Tardis interior & exterior, theme tune, etc. I could write an essay on how similar it is to the Classic Series.
I like how we have more focus on the Doctor herself. I feel in the RTD & Moffat years, the companions become a really big focus, so having more focus shifted on the Doctor herself, especially in Series 12, is really nice to see. Especially with the Timeless Child arc.
I love the 13th Doctor. Along with 12, she is my favourite Doctor. I love her hopefullness, kindness, childishness, seriousness, sadness and moments of anger. She captures everything about the Doctor. I admire the Companions, It is hard to pick a favourite when I like them all.
Originally I was hesitant to the idea of there being incarnations before Hartnell, but after Fugtive, learning about the Brain of Morbius and seeing it perfectly executed in The Timeless Children, I love it. It brings back so much mystery to the character, Doctor Who???
I like that it’s become more educational, and really love that it covers themes such as Racism, Global Warming, Plastics & Mental Health, but in some sort of Sci-Fi way. It’s nice to see these things brought to attention. Yes I do like Orphan 55 and the message at the end.
The Historicals have been amazing, my personal favourite being The Haunting of Villa Diodati, which is my favourite episode. But I’ve loved seeing famous people such as Tesla, Rosa, Mary Shelley, King James, Ada Lovelace, Noor Inayat Khan & so on. It’s nice to learn about them.
I’m really excited and happy that Gallifrey is getting more focus, especially with The Timeless Child revelations and the new arc set up, The Division and the Fugitive Doctor. It’s a really exciting time to be a Whovian.
Please if you are a Not My Doctor and plan on posting negativity on here, please don’t, because if you do, you’re pathetic.
Just for clarification, I’m not saying this era is the best, as that is subjective, nor am I saying it is perfect, because it’s not. In fact no era of Doctor Who will ever be perfect, so please stop pretending that this era is somehow the worst. Every era has faults, fact.
@segunakinola is truly amazing. He’s a Modern Delia Derbyshire, I love his atmospheric soundscape style of music. It truly fits Doctor Who. Did I forget to say I absolutely adore his Cyberman theme.
