In this @unboundedcap conversation with @rogerkver, Roger mentions a specific Coingeek article and Craig lacking technical knowledge and walking out of the HK meeting as reasons to side with BCH.
As supporter of accurate records, I like to add something to the record.

At the time of the big block community split, I closely followed all information publicly available from key players and events that let up to the "hash war" that never happend.
At the time I had no relations with any specific side, only to the big block community itself.

Yes, I remember seeing that coingeek article claiming victory. It indeed was very strange. I believe CG mentioning later that it was about a seperate meeting just with miners but I have not seen any evidence for that meeting. Please correct me if someone else has.
I also listened to the complete audio recording of that HK meeting. https://m.soundcloud.com/user-489394338
Jimmy made a very good plea to miners for professionalism, scaling and long term necessity for miners to focus on tx-fees.

Amaury told his version of bch history with him as main actor and giving credit to his friends for contributing. As csw called it "a circlejerk".
Well yes, it kind of exactly was that. It was an sad appeal to authority, not a long term vision for miners.

In this "miners" meeting Amaury positioned himself as head of the bch devtatorship. He made clear the entire meeting was pointless and that there was no room in the future for nChain and Coingeek in "his" BCH.
Calvin's presence would have made zero difference.

It is clear by now that the intent and purpose of some of the protocol changes at the table have been made just to get rid of CSW and CG and force them to part ways. It was about showing control over the protocol, not about scaling bitcoin.
I can only conclude Calvin and Amaury both already known that the upcomming war was inevitable.
Roger was likely not aware of this fact and still had faith in a positive outcome. Also Jimmy and CSW may still had some hope, this could explain the frustrated csw walk out.

"The first casualty when war comes is truth"
To only put blame to calvin/coingeek is a one-sided view of events. The meeting was pointless to begin with, no effort was made to find concensus, and making people fly in from all over the world to a pointless meeting was just as dishonest. It was all politics.
But Roger still might not been aware of that.
What Roger is aware of and involved with is the foul play during the hash war.
For many neutral big blockers the checkpoints and collusion with exchanges to steal the ticker was anti-bitcoin and a dealbreaker to side with ABC.

Also Roger, with a history of campaigning against censorship on reddit, and remaining silent when exactly this happend to SV supporters in bch reddit groups, makes me believe roger chosen politics over truth himself.
At that time, my opinion of the Coingeek media outlet was that it clearly had a political agenda. Must say it changed since and has improved a lot, but at that point in time I took many of their articles with a grain of salt.
The false report about the outcome of the miners meeting didn't matter to me as much as I don't blame a wolf for being a wolf.
I was more disappointed in a "Jesus" persona playing dirty after calling others out on playing dirty.
And checkpoints and collusion with exchanges was a very very dirty trick.

Also claiming CSW lacks the technical knowledge in the same conversation praising him for being the only one explaining bitcoin was turing complete makes me wonder how sincere this argument has truly been for choosing bch over sv.
I could imagine that Roger was confused. It was indeed a very confusing time in big block history.
But time has passed and the fog of war has cleared. Still upholding the exact same arguments for siding with ABC after seeing what happend with Bitcoin Cash under ABC control

Correction. Whenever in this tread I say Hong Kong meeting, it should have been Bangkok meeting. Different location. Sorry about that.
Also the english version of the bangkok meeting is better to understand for most, including me.
So should have linked to this one. https://m.soundcloud.com/user-489394338/bkk-day1-englishonly-aug30-2018
