Last night was the most horrible night at work I’ve had since I started working again. Unfortunately I can’t afford not to be working even though it’s probably not safe, but if you’re planning on going to a bar then please be kind to your bar staff. (Thread)
If staff are asking you to do something, please just do it. Don’t tell us to ‘go f*** ourselves’ or start making sexual comments and gestures about us (both of which happened to me last night), just do it. It’s a government rule, we’re not just asking for the sake of it.
If you can’t handle your alcohol, don’t drink that much. It’s simple really but somehow some people don’t seem to understand it. Don’t drink until you’re throwing up. It’s horrible to clean up anyway, let alone during a pandemic when it’s just plain unsafe too.
There’s a screen in front of the bar for a reason. It’s to keep your bar staff safe and help us do our jobs don’t try and smash it down (yes that actually happened) or lean underneath it to order, just speak up a bit and respect the fact it has to be there.
And most importantly, just. BE. NICE. I can’t tell you how many people were vile towards myself and other staff last night. We’re just trying to do our jobs and we don’t deserve to be treated that way. If you can’t show respect to the staff at pubs, don’t go to pubs. Simple.
Oh wait I forgot one thing, don’t get into fights!
Last night ended with a 20 person brawl in the garden over nothing, meaning no one involved was social distancing, and the staff who had to tear you all apart weren’t either. It puts a lot of people in danger so please don’t.
