People always ask me: "how can you be against identity politics when you are so fond of your Parsi roots?" I am completely in favour of people celebrating their ethnic (or any other) identity if it is done in a positive way, rather than as a means of denigrating others. 1/
If it's a political cudgel with which to beat others (because you think you're superior) or some weird twisted masochistic thing (because you think you have white fragility or whatever) or something to gatekeep because you won't share (a caste mark, in effect), then no. 2/
Celebrate it if that's fun for you or meaningful to you in a positive way. And accept that not everyone finds it fun or meaningful. Ultimately, it is cosplay. We're all individuals, we're all human. 3/
