BREAKING: @LASheriffDept is having a party at @SassafrasHW on Vine in Hollywood. Acting on a tip, I went to the scene and captured photos of deputies drinking on the street, littering, and no one had on a mask. Bars have been closed under guidance from Gov. Newsom since 7/13 https://twitter.com/knockdotla/status/1289446430235488256
These guys said their names were Chris and Daniel Moreno. They enjoyed some White Claw before littering and heading into the bar.
There's a Daniel Moreno listed as a correctional officer on Transparent California. He makes $138,832.98 annually enforcing the law. Chris Moreno is also listed as a correctional officer, and makes
$207,608.03 annually according to Transparent California. No masks tho.
This guy said his name was Jerry Davila. The George J Davila listed on Transparent California is also a correctional officer, and he makes $93,949.55 annually.
Sassafras Saloon is owned by @1933_Group, which operates a number of bars in the Hollywood area. 1933 Group and the @lapublichealth did not respond to my request for comment.
The video was the work of members of @GroundGameLA who earlier today held a protest at the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriffs calling for the cancellation of rent and bringing awareness to the upcoming eviction tsunami. Evictions are executed by the Sheriffs Dept.
Some context on COVID-19 in the LA County Sheriff's Department: 692 personnel have tested positive. 3,102 have been listed as "impacted", meaning they have either quarantined, are at high risk, or have returned to work. https://lasd.org/covid19updates/
A note: this tweet should read LA County Sheriff is reportedly having a party at @SassafrasHW on Vine in Hollywood. Acting on a tip, I went to the scene and captured photos of alleged deputies drinking on the street, littering, and no one had on a mask.
Some more info: @LAHomeless conducted 2 sweeps on the encampments outside Sassafras in the week leading up to the party.

Supervisor Kathryn Barger just she was "concerned" and "disappointed" when she saw news of alleged LASD party and that the Alcoholic Beverage Comm. and Dept. of Public Health are investigating. DPH director Barbara Ferrer said there is "zero tolerance" for indoor parties.
LA Sheriff's Dept. is calling the party a hoax. I've been in contact w/ people w/ direct knowledge of the event who said it was presented to staff as a party involving the department. Sassafras confirmed to me it was for "first responders" but declined to specify what kind.
When I told the Sassafras rep that it would strike me as unusual if medical workers had an indoor party during a pandemic, she agreed with me.
