Department of Planning now appearing at the #NarrabriGas public hearing. The first question from the @IPC_NSW is "have you considered increased fire risk due to climate change?" David Kitto's short answer is "yes" but long answer reveals, actually, "not really.."
That is, they considered what would happen during catastrophic fire danger, but he hasn't said how they accounted for the fact that such danger will be occurring more often by the middle of the century
How can Kitto say that the likelhood of the #NarrabriGas gasfield causing a fire is "remote" when Santos says its a 1 in 70 chance and that estimate *doesn't* consider heightened fire conditions
This double act of Mike Young & David Kitto on #NarrabriGas is giving the public a peek into @NSWDPIE's attitude to major mining projects: they're not looking for risks and problems, interrogating Santos' info, they're looking for excuses and explanations and backing Santos up
David Kitto is wrong or misleading the @IPC_NSW when he says monitoring will pick up groundwater impacts before they affect landholders' bores. Santos has resisted agreeing to the monitoring network recommended by @NSWDPIE_Water and we don't know where the monitoring will happen
Kitto talking about impacts "at a regional level" because Santos' model is not capable of predicting impacts at the local level, ie: on landholders' bores nearby
The ecological literacy of the Resource Assessment team on display as Kitto misunderstands why Commissioner Barlow would be asking about fencing in the #NarrabriGas project and its role in habitat fragmentation
omg these dixers from Mike Young are really grating "presumbly, Steve, from an economic point of view, Santos would be avoiding areas of high CO2?"
David Kitto has done it again - he's just admitted to the @IPC_NSW that "there’s more than enough gas being produced in Australia for domestic use"
" #NarrabriGas is consistent with Government policy provided it can be developed sustainably" - I think I've spotted the problem here...
