1) Some combination of neuroscientist + artist!
2) My advisor reminds me of my strengths, believes in me to achieve whatever I set my sights on, and respects what I do with my time outside of the lab!
(But I don't think he knows how much time i spend on Twitter

Theres so much to unpack in a good mentee/mentor relationship, but one thing that stands out with my advisor is how he adjusts his mentorship to what I want to do with my career (which I've flip-flopped on over the years) and never wavers in his support.
Of course, he has taught me how to do world-class science, but has also encouraged me to take a week-long entrepreneur course, has defended my art against skeptical PIs, and he comments on my strengths in advocacy and communication.
I feel valued as more than just a scientist.
I feel valued as more than just a scientist.
Being supported holistically in all the things I do has made me feel like I belong even more in academia, because my mentors see my differences as strengths and not distractions.
I encourage all advisors to provide this support so advisees can be honest in their interests!

I'm very grateful for the workshops @HHMINEWS has provided both me and my mentor. I've learned how to better communicate my needs and goals, and my mentor has learned how to support me.
Mentorship is not one-size-fits-all, and the skills need to be constantly developed.

Anyways HUGE congrats to the new cohort of #GilliamFellows & advisors.
I hope each advisor recognizes the privilege in having such an amazing, multifaceted student and opportunigy for mentorship training to become better advisors to these growing scientists
Welcome to the fam!
