this is about the “war cry” in dreams recent stream, coming from a full blooded native american
before i begin, i’m gonna make a whole carrd of everything explaining what are the do’s and donts for natives because no one on any stan twitter knows.. our culture isn’t...shown as much as i’d like it to be? it’s just not shown enough for it to be respected properly
the entire concept of a war cry is sacred to native americans. throughout the course of time, it has been used repeatedly to mock and belittle us, in terms of a non native american using it, yes it is offensive in every aspect.
this is the war cry he used, and it is one that is shown as a stereotypical native war cry. there are dozens of different native cultures and tribes that have their own war cry. but the fact he used the most stereotypical one is why it becomes so offensive
our culture is constantly appropriated when it comes to certain things like

headdresses
medicines
war cries
war makeup
traditional dancing
traditional singing
traditional items

and so and so on
— why is it offensive?

the reason it is offensive is because the war cry is a sacred meaning to natives as a whole. within native culture we have our reasonings to keep our culture small, not very known and it’s meant for us only. i’ll emphasize that in the next tweet
— why is it offensive? pt 2

our culture is supposed to be for us only. our prayers, our dances and medicines are meant for natives only. when something crosses that boundary it is shown as disrespectful to us who uses it to heal ourselves, family’s or even personal issues
— my thoughts on it

i’m not angry, but i’m sorta disappointed that none of them were aware. immediately i knew it didn’t sit right with me when dream did it individually. but as soon as they all did it, especially in the context of them blowing something up and running away-
it felt like they were mocking it and almost mis-representing how natives actually are. i’ve struggled with people telling me i’m a “savage” for being a native due to the history of natives being fearless and “scalping” anyone who comes their way.
i have a reason to feel a lil iffy of how it was shown. i’m not coming off with hate or any negativity! just a lil upset that someone i adored is also under the same group of not knowing much about native american culture/history ):
i will make a carrd right now explaining it in much more detail with research and evidence to back up my statements, but for now please spread this and make it known so our culture can stop being appropriated constantly with no justice
here’s the video for reference :
pls tag them so they can properly address this situation and educate themselves as well!
here is a carrd i JUST made to bring awareness about native cultural appropriation, it explains all of it by me !!!! https://indigenousappropriation.carrd.co/

his response :

absolutely no words !!!! no words !!!
he then proceeded to say we can’t be offended because it isn’t offensive.. even tho it is my culture and i have a right to be ! totally not cool but his opinion is his i can’t change that
this itself is just fucking rude and idek so take it how you please
