A thread on creating meaningful exposure to college coaches in today's recruiting landscape.

First, a few keys we'll discuss:

1) Meaningful skills must precede meaningful exposure
2) Video is more important & effective as a recruiting tool
than ever
3) Use your network!
2/While for-profit youth baseball would love you to believe you need to play this tournament, attend that showcase, & go w/ this recruiting company to get recruited (all things that cost $), the pandemic has exposed these things for what they truly are—recruiting process luxuries
3/Even w/ many college coaches unable to recruit in person, programs are still moving forward w/ recruiting/committing kids. Parents have asked us how. The answer gets to the heart of how to make meaningful recruiting connections w/ coaches (under normal times or during COVID).
4/Getting recruited starts w/ having a recruitable skill set. This is ALWAYS step 1. Contrary 2 popular belief, not all exposure is good. It's a 2-way street. Meaningful exposure 1st requires players to meet athletic/skill-based standards. Period. Development 1st, exposure 2nd.
5/ Once you have developed the skill set that college coaches are looking for, use as many opportunities as possible to proactively target schools of interest. You must be proactive and leverage your network to help you make connections and start recruiting conversations.
6/This leads to the importance of video. Coaches are and will continue to rely on video to help ID players they need to go see in person. The ability to pair quality video w/ measurable data gives coaches the ability to do a high level evaluation from the comfort of their office.
7/Add a recommendation/info from a trusted baseball source to a quality video evaluation & your recruitment will really be cooking w gas. College coaches always rely on a trusted network of coaches/scouts to help w recruiting. The pandemic has made this network even more valuable
8/Good news for recruits who have been working to improve their game! Recruiting videos are an incredibly cost-effective form of exposure & when done correctly, really work! With an iPhone, teammate, and a borrowed radar gun, you can make a high quality recruiting video for FREE.
9/Even better? Sending video to college coaches at programs of interest, posting video on social media, & using @FlatgroundApp @FlatgroundBats to amplify exposure is FREE! This means if you develop the right skills, you can land on recruiting boards even on a shoestring budget!
10/ And best of all, we’ve created a FREE online course to walk you through all of these steps with information and insight coming straight from the very college coaches who will be evaluating your video and recruiting you.
