I have a small world story inside of a small world story to share that I think will be fun to tell on twitter.

This first part is one of many small world stories I’ve experienced in NYC. And it starts at a Broadway play.

1/
When we lived on Long Island, I would take the LIRR into the city in January to work at @NRFBigShow.

Normally I would stay over one night in the city and make plans with colleagues for dinner while there. On this particular night my dinner plans fell through.

2/
Not one to waste a night in the city, I decided to walk to the TKS booth and take myself to a play. I bought tickets for @ItsOnlyAPlay and headed to the theater.
3/
It’s a bit unusual to be at the theater alone but not unprecedented. Still, it turned out that the guy sitting next to me was also there by himself, so we struck up a conversation.

4/
He was in the city from Texas for an acting workshop. He did some video as part of his corporate job and found out he had a knack for it, so he started getting commercial work and was now pursuing acting on the side.
5/
After talking for just a few minutes, we found out we had a few things in common:
1.He worked for @USAA a where I’m a loyal customer.
2.We both worked in corporate communications.
3.We had both attended conferences from @RaganComms but not at the same time.

6/
But the best small world coincidence is that he knew one of my colleagues from @SASsoftware, @lisaarney (who now works at @DisneyParks).

7/
What are the odds of sitting down next to a stranger in a crowded theater in NYC and finding out within a few minutes that you and that stranger know someone in common? (This has also happened to on a bus in NYC and on a bus in Disney, so maybe it’s not that unusual?)

8/
The actor sitting next to me was @jeffbrody.

After the play we went our separate ways but connected on social media. Over the last 5 years, I’ve enjoyed watching his acting career take off and remembering the small world connection.

9/
Fast forward to the present. One of my current favorite follows here in Twitter is @TheRealDoctorT. He tells such lovely stories about life and work and the small moments that matter.
He's a beautiful storyteller and generous with replies here on Twitter, which can be unusual for someone with his follower count.

I read and share his stories even with friends who aren’t on Twitter, because they resonate with me and impart lessons about the human spirit.
11/
Recently @TheRealDoctorT has become known for his threads about the patients and doctors in the COVID unit at his hospital. They're heart breaking and enlightening. And shared widely. I send them to my kids to read.
12/
The other day on Facebook I noticed that @jeffbrody had linked to one of the threads by @TheRealDoctorT, and Jeff said how proud he was of his wife Jennifer because she was one of the doctors mentioned in the thread!

Maybe this doesn’t feel that remarkable to you. It’s just social media after all. We all overlap and form networks and follow the people who intersect with out interests.

14/
But it feels somehow aligned to me. I feel a small thread of connection to these other humans working to teach us, entertain us and to save our lives. We are all, all, all of us in this together.
