I have been social distancing since March. The only time I went outside without a mask was when my lease ended and I had to move my belongings from my apartment into a storage unit. I still contracted COVID-19 *thread*
I noticed symptoms on the 24th, got tested on the 27th, and received my diagnosis on the 30th.
I have been paranoid as hell trying to protect myself and my immunocompromised roommates, but masks and social distancing isn’t effective when the ones spreading the virus don’t wear them or social distance.
I am recovering and being taken care of, but there are people that don’t live in as much privilege as I do.
My mother is cooking meals and leaving them at the stairs of my childhood bedroom. I love and appreciate her forever, but a few months back we barely talked and I wouldn’t have had my parents to lean on. I would’ve been homeless, sick, and living in my car.
My professors and supervisors are being incredible with my grad school/assistantship, but when a @GeorgiaSouthern administrator called me today after I self reported, he cheerfully rejoiced in the fact that I should be able to return to campus just in time for the semester.
I assured him that I was taking my classes online with or without his or any faculty members’ permission. Many faculty are very supportive and I am grateful for that, but I am terrified for their safety.
@LeticiaMcGrath @stacysmallwood @JYSexton i don’t follow many professors on here bc I talk too much shit but these are @GeorgiaSouthern faculty that I KNOW care and are just as disappointed as I am in the administration.
I’m bedridden for now because I’m too dizzy to stand, so please just wear a damn mask and @BORUSG please show that you care about your faculty, staff, and students and let us have a virtual semester before myself and my fellow Eagles continue to fall sick.
If you care about me and my story, take a moment to listen to my roommate who contracted at the same time as me.
