I'm under the weather today, so I've bought a batch of video games on sale.
Going to play the Twelfth Final Fantasy.

I tried a bit of this game on a friend's playstation, and hated the way the way accents were used. American accents for the oppressed minorites! Please.
I'm setting the voices to Japanese so I won't be able to tell if the choices are offensive.

I forgot to turn on subtitles. To solve this I had to CLOSE THE GAME AND START AGAIN.
How on earth is that the system?

Loving this so far. I really like stories of underdogs vs empires.
I can see why it would've been off-putting to code the fictional countries with real world accents. Dalmasca's meant to be a tiny, seemingly trivial country in this conflict. Any fitting accent would be racist.

Blimey, the start of this game is just death and hopelessness! I'm into it.
Okay, the subtitles still make it clear the villains are British.
Britain's awful, so British villains are fine ...
... except for when America uses them to feel like a scrappy underdog.

The Aladdin-meets-Star Wars vibe of this game looks so different from this side of the Rise of the Disney Empire.
If I was a hot-take-monger, I'd be pitching "Rozarria and Arcadia are Disney and Fox".

I guess Dalmasca are the Maximoff twins.
My favourite thing in RPGs are skill trees and unlockable abilities, all those things, so I'm really excited by the zodiac class wheel.
My Vaan will be a katana boy.
(If I got to choose one of these, I'd be black mage every time. They have such cool hats.)

I am taking to ever single person in this game, so completing the game will take me seven hundred years. Just in time for lockdown to lift.
Big fan of the chicken steeds.
Cactoids are adorable. I'd have a pet one.
Penelo can be a black mage.
Big shout out to the satisfying noises computer games make when you select things in menus. I don't think I'd bother with video games without the little clicks and jingles.

Back on Final Fantasy the Twelfth. I've just seen a brief cutscene of a man with an AMAZING waistcoat and a big sword, being driven by a woman in dominatrix gear on a motorbike.
(And if anyone's interested, she had the ears of a giant rabbit.)

Bunny woman's named Fran. I think they're bandits! They seem to have broken into the palace treasury.
Already, they're my favourite thieves since Jessie, James and Meowth.

Wait, WHAT?! I think I'm teaming up with them!!
The bunny-eared people are called Viera, and Fran is unusual because she's hooked up with a human.
The human is called Balthier, and they are SKY PIRATES
This game is really kicking off.
