Hey #HigherEd :
I see institutions arguing against revising financing to prioritize headcount > FTE. I understand you feel you’ll lose funding.
But let’s be clear about why: You don’t serve part-time students.
If you did, everyone would benefit.

Consider the evidence:
1. Following the Great Recession nearly all the enrollment increase was part-time students.
2. Minoritized and low-income students are more likely to attend part-time. So are people with kids, and people with jobs. https://hope4college.com/resourcing-the-part-time-student-rethinking-the-use-of-ftes-in-higher-education-budgets/">https://hope4college.com/resourcin...

3. I know you think part-time students don’t graduate. But that’s not a “fact,” it’s a consequence of insufficient support.
Fix their funding and your support of their education and they WILL graduate.
Fight this and you’re fighting for college= privilege. During a pandemic.

This fight is a form of Whiteness plaguing #highered - it’s “full-time as the Right Way.”
You will not succeed in making people switch to FT because that’s what you want. They are whole humans and education is part of their lives.
Institutions and policymakers must adapt.

Good news! You can fix this problem ASAP!
There is no reason whatsoever that your undergrad and grad programs should keep out PT students.
Change your rules. Get funding.
