The front door got kicked open and closed, and a voice called tiredly “I’m home.”

When he stepped into the living room, he found one his only joys waiting for him on the sofa.

“Welcome back” they touched their beaks together gently “how was work?”

An exasperated sigh. “The usual, I had to threaten a bunch of bumbling idiots again today.”

A hum. “I understand, I had to endure the same.”

Kurono came into the room from the kitchen, keeping a respectful distance.

“Welcome back, Duo, sir” he gave a slight bow to the owl, who inclined his head. “Dinner will be ready shortly.”

“Thank you, Kurono” the green bird said, before narrowing his eyes. “You haven’t missed your Spanish lesson today, have you?”

“Claro que no, señor. Ya la he estudiada.”

The owl puffed up proudly and Chisaki’s eyes had the tiniest amused crinkle.

“Perfecto! Soon we could even get you started on an endangered language, like Hawaiian or N/avajo!”

Kurono excused himself back to the kitchen during the happy hooting that followed.

Chisaki dropped his head to Duo’s shoulder. “Stop it now, don’t bring work back home.” Duo deflated with a little ‘sorry’.

Chisaki’s answer was to snuggle in closer, handless arms coming up to pet soft feathers.

He let out a sigh when he felt Duo’s beak start to gently preen his hair.
