A thread on things we still don't know about the @universityofga reopening plan for Fall 2020. This is based in part on concerns raised by a colleague who has been present in a recent college-level meetings led by a campus dean. Some are still fixable... @redandblack
There is apparently NO plan to test all students moving into campus housing. I know other universities are doing this. (I know this in part because I'm also the mom of a rising freshman who is moving into Creswell, so I'm seeing the info he's receiving).
What happens if a student living in campus housing contracts the virus? Unclear. Plan A is that students will "return home" but if unable, "University Housing will support them by providing an isolation space." Where?

What happens if a student attends classes (or other events) in person, and then discovers they are positive for the virus? No idea. Will those classes need to (be required to?) move all online? For how long?
We have *no* information about what thresholds will lead to different restrictions. The current claim is that campus housing will stay open until Thanksgiving, no matter what. But will classes shift to "all online" after any criterion? We don't know what that would be.
I will keep this as a pinned thread and will add to it as time goes on. Also, the @UCWGA3265 and @UcwgaUGA groups have been doing great work pressure for better info. We need to know if uga folks die of Covid. This UGA staff member allegedly did. https://twitter.com/UcwgaUGA/status/1288807135162359814?s=20
UGA, like all USG schools, is requiring ALL staff to return to work on campus, in their physical offices. Why? This is based on outdated state policy that is NOT best practice during a pandemic. We should be minimizing density of people on campus.
I welcome suggestions for other questions that need answers, as well as comparison to other policies / practices at other USG schools and other public universities, in the comments below.
I will also add, full disclosure, that I am currently ambivalent about what should happen. Yes, cases are (way) higher than in the spring. But I am not on "team shut it all down." I want ALL students faculty and staff to have freedom to choose where to work and study.
Georgia Southern: really?

More on GA southern: sounds like students can be tested at their health center.
But the question of what universities will disclose about positive cases remains to be seen:

Georgia Tech had a question and answer event yesterday which was live tweeted by a student who did not pull punches. This thread is worth a read in full. Answers not much more clear there.

Students at Georgia Tech Are organizing to push for no penalty remote instruction. To be clear: I think that should be available as a matter of right for all students faculty and staff this fall who wish to learn and work this way.

Again, re: What professors will be told if a student in one of their classes tests positive: no clear indication there, and apparently no systemwide policy. đŸ˜ŹđŸ€ŠđŸŒâ€â™€ïž

Quick reminder that administrators are cheerily telling students and parents that faculty have been working on updating their classes all summer. This is uncompensated work and negatively impacts our other job responsibilities.

I’m also really perplexed by this communication from Kennesaw state administrators to their faculty. This seems an unnecessary level of micromanagement. Faculty can offer any accommodations they want to. Attendance policies should be super flexible this fall.
