Let’s talk about 💞 Entrapta 💞 and what is the problem with stereotypes on Autistic Rep narrative.
A thread by and autistic person.

First of all I’d like to say: I LOVE Entrapta. I see myself on her, I love how she was written. The issue is not the character, it rarely is.
First things first let’s break this down: Entrapta herself isn’t the problem, but the ambient we always see her inserted In. The biggest problem when it comes to autistic rep in midia is that representation always comes up surrounded by an absolutely awful and negative ambient.
For some reason, it’s easier to “convince” neurotypical people to create a false sensation of empathy towards us when the narrative is focusing on our struggles than in our qualities. Notice almost all autistic rep in midia is always focused on how those characters suffer.
“Suffer for being autistic”. “Suffer for not being understood by the society” & “for being outsiders”. “LOOK how people treat them so BAD. ARENT YOU ASHAMED?”
This is the problematic narrative that’s present And basically attached to any autistic rep.
I think for most of us, we want for once just see an autistic person having an actual good time. Without people surrounding them all the time and focusing on their autism like it’s something that makes us so so weird/different from the rest of the world.
Although Entrapta is lovely written, I feel like we lost so much moments when they could have used her brilliant brain to make a good association with autism. How this doesn’t make her weird, but bright ! We definitely had some of those, but honestly, barely they were explicit.
And I honestly think almost no one would associate her so called “lucid” moments with her autism. Instead almost all scenes she appears, what we have is entrapta struggling to fit in. Entrapta not being respected or being perceived as someone who’s part of the group.
Honestly I, as autistic, felt like mostly scenes of Entrapta outside the horde and away from Hordak where extremely triggering. I know how it is to be treated like some “pet” I’m your group of friends because you just don’t function the same way than them. This is triggering.
The fact the other princess never apologized aswell for the way they treated her... probably is the worst part. For me. They just shrugged it off like all of this never happened. Entrapta was always trying hard to be perceived as part of the group, but they really never accepted
Accepted her for who she is and not by forcing her to act the way they expect her to act. Like she was some constant kind of problem, an annoying thing they had to take care of. Honestly this hurts. It know it’s meant to. But we don’t need more of this. We know.
We don’t want neurotypical people to be sorry for us either. Autism isn’t a disease. We just see the world in a different way. Can we have once, just once, rep that instead of people seeing our struggles, they can se how we perceive the world in a beautiful different way?
That pretty much resumes this whole thing: “the problem isn’t the character but the way the stereotyped narrative treats them almost everytime.”
This is not an attack to Noelle.
This is not an attack to creators of those shows. We’re just pointing out how some things are harmful
And how we are really tired to always have the same thing over and over again. I don’t want people to be sorry. I want them to understand.
I’m different, “imperfect”. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
